McGroarty Art Center A message from the McGroarty Arts Center: As you may already know, the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs is being threatened with catastrophic budget and staff cuts. Staff reductions of 24-48% have been proposed as well as the total elimination of grants. Arts and culture are important economic drivers for Los Angeles, and are an important part of our economic recovery. Arts mean jobs, arts bring cultural tourists, arts lower youth crime rates, and arts create economic development. With no plan for reinstituting this revenue, this motion could mean the end of public investment for arts and culture for generations to come. Dukemejian Park Barn Dukmejian Park Historic Barn Seismic upgrades of the historic barn at Deukmejian Wilderness Park are set to move forward more than a year after the project was delayed by the state budget crisis. The seismic upgrade project was shelved last year after grant funding was frozen by the state, but that money has since been released, and the project is ready to move forward. The final step of the process will be to find an additional $1.2 million to $1.5 million in grant funds to complete the barn’s transformation into an interpretive center, which can host classes, lectures and meetings.
