Mariam Barnes was born and raised in La Crescenta, and she is now raising her family in La Crescenta. She and her husband Paul have twin girls, and play quite a big role in mentoring local students, who they also affectionately call their “kids”.
Mariam recruits for tech startups by trade and is an entrepreneur at heart. She has a passion for helping small businesses or budding entrepreneurs succeed. At any given time, you will find her trying to help someone get a job, or help someone bring their business idea to life.
Mariam is serving her 5th year on the Crescenta Valley Town Council, and through the council, she has had the opportunity to volunteer in so many ways. She is on several committees that include: The Scholarship Committee, the Youth Town Council committee, the Prayer breakfast committee, and the Website committee.
Mariam is instrumental in leading the Youth in our community to explore entrepreneurship. She, alongside Harry Leon (President of the Council), worked to put in place a program called “Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow.” This event allows young children to sell their goods at our local Farmers market. What was once an annual event has now become quarterly, and has been a great motivation to get young people to think about their career goals.
